Why Setting Time Away for Yourself Matters

By Jan Goranson

Life moves fast. We juggle work, family, expectations, and the ever-growing list of “shoulds.” It’s easy to get swept up in the current and forget that we, too, need care. That’s why I believe in the power of setting time aside for you. Not out of indulgence, but necessity.

Yoga, for me, is the space where this happens. It’s where we slow down, move with intention, and breathe life back into ourselves. It’s where we find stillness in the chaos and reconnect with our rhythms. Setting this time is more than physical; it’s a return to self.

We hold space for each other when we gather in community, whether on our retreats or in our community classes. We move and breathe together. We create a container that is supportive, welcoming, and safe. A place where you’re not judged, not expected to perform, just to be.

I believe in creating spaces where you are seen and heard. Spaces where we soften the noise of comparison, of expectations, and just listen to our bodies, to our breath, to our hearts. Yoga helps us peel back the layers of what we’ve been told we need to be and lets us ask: what truly works for me?

This practice offers room for opening new perspectives, new habits, and new levels of self-awareness. It reminds us we don’t have to be perfect. We don’t have to hold on so tightly. Through non-judgment and non-attachment, we find the freedom to be real. We find clarity. Sometimes, we even find joy in the unexpected.

This is what yoga is for me. It’s not just a movement practice. It’s a practice of remembering who we are, what we need, and what we want to carry forward.

And this is what I want to bring to you:

A space that welcomes you exactly as you are.

A practice that helps you reconnect.

A community that supports and sees you.

And the reminder that your time, your presence, is a gift, not just to yourself, but to everyone around you.

So, take the time. Breathe. Move. Be.

You’re worth it.

With love,

Jan
